A magnificent effort by Zane Chason hoisted USA to a 14-0 win in six innings over Botswana on Monday at Field #1.
Chason’s 13 strikeouts helped USA to the victory. USA’s pitcher gave up just two hits over six shutout innings.
USA’s bats came to life in the sixth inning. BOT had no answer as USA scored nine runs. USA scored in the sixth on An RBI single by Matthew Martin, an error, an error, an RBI single by Bryce DuCharme, an RBI single by Brady Parker, a two-run single by Devin Martin, and a two-run single by Martin.
Martin racked up four RBIs on three hits for USA.
Samuel Kunyalala was charged with the loss. He allowed nine runs in 5 1/3 innings, walked two and struck out eight.
USA didn’t relinquish the lead after scoring two runs in the first inning when it scored on An error.
USA built upon its lead with two runs in the fourth. Martin’s single got things going, plating Jeff Lewis. That was followed up by Jonathan Broadbear’s single, scoring Martin.
The USA Jr. Men return to play on Tuesday at 2pm EDT/11am PDT against Denmark. The USA is currently 1-1 (lost to ARG, beat Botswana; games remaining: Denmark, Czech Republic and Australia) The USA Jr Men will play two games Tuesday, with the game against the Czech Republic at 8pm EDT/5pm PDT. Australia is their last pool play game, at 6pm EDT/3pm PDT Wednesday. The Medal Round starts Thursday, for the top 4 teams in each of the two pools, finishing on Sunday.
