From Blair Setford, ISC Canada East:
All of us at ISC Canada East want to thank the umpires, teams, players, fans and especially the grounds crew and host committee in Innerkip who got us through the challenging weather this weekend at our annual qualifier tournament.
After only being able to get in two of four scheduled games on Friday night, we suspended start times and mandated that games would start 15 minutes from the end of the preceding game. We got 100% buy-in and cooperation from everyone involved to keep the tournament running. Additional rain delays on Saturday and Sunday added to the challenge to try to complete the tournament at a reasonable hour on Sunday.
As it turned out, we were only about 45 minutes behind by early Sunday evening, and that was the result of an earlier game running long.
Congratulations to Toronto Batmen, our 2017 ISC Canada East Qualifier champion. The Batmen finished the weekend undefeated, as did New Hamburg Mustangs, who successfully defended their ISC Canada East U21 Championship, sponsored by Armitage Technologies.
Caleb Keeshig, of the Batmen, was named the Top Pitcher and Kitchener Hallman Cubs Colin Walsh was named MVP. On the U21 side, MVP was Port Perry Bulls’ Jeff St. Pierre and the Top Pitcher was the Mustangs’ Liam Laforest.
Our hosts, Innerkip Minor Ball/Innerkip Parks & Rec kept the beverages ice cold, fed everyone with terrific ballpark food and kept the diamonds in great shape despite the rain. The Innerkip Sports Park is widely recognized as being one of the very best facilities in southern Ontario and deservedly so. Huge thanks to Dave Jonker and his crew of Mark Wilker, Michael Gautier, Thomas Morgan and Christopher Morgan.
Thanks to our scorekeepers Alex Cook, Diana Thomas, Dennis Yeadon, Lori Cook, Nate Running, Carl Littlejohns, Dave Jonker and Jaime Wilker with a special assist by our own Kyle Smith.
We also want to thank ISC UiC Bruce Bierman who put together a fantastic Blue Crew for this weekend consisting of Ed Otterman, Fred Malatches, Jay Hart, Lou Davis, Mike Brito, Mitch Zuk, Peter Kluszczynski
Rick Boyd, Rick Wsynski, Rob Deakin, Trevor Topping and Wayne Hallock. A great job as always!
ISC Statistician Gary Baughman battled computer issues and has managed to score all games from the ISC tournament and will soon complete the U21 division with full game and player stats for both divisions to come. A big thank you to Gary from all of us.
Also thank you to Al Doran for posting all of the scores and working with Gary to post the game stats and final stats packages. See http://www.alsfastball.com/
