In what can only be described as a shocker in the Dominican Republic, the Canadian men’s fastpitch softball team failed to qualify for the 2019 Pan American Games following a sixth-place finish at the qualifying tournament, which finished up Sunday in Santo Domingo.
In the final game of the 2017 Pan American Championship, Cuba scored three runs in the second inning, and hung on for a 3-2 win over Canada.
In July, Canada won the bronze medal at the world championship in Whitehorse, Yukon.
The Canadian team in the Dominican Republic featured five Newfoundlanders — Jason Hill of St. John’s, Kyle Ezekiel of Holyrood and Jeremy O’Reilly of Placentia, and assistant coaches John Hill of St. John’s and Les Howey of C.B.S. Click here to continue reading at Telegram Sports.
