The Innerkip Expos won the ISC Canada East Ontario Challenge Cup in Innerkip, Ont. Sept. 22 to 24, 2017. The Innerkip Expos beat the Ohsweken Redmen 8-1 in the finals to win the tournament.
The Innerkip Expos won the annual International Softball Congress Canada East Ontario Challenge Cup Sept. 22 to 24 in Innerkip.
The Expos defeated the Ohsweken Redmen 8-1 in the finals. Dustin Veenhoff earned the win with five innings on the mound, allowing only three hits and getting five strikeouts. Jeff Lyons went 1-for-2 with an RBI, Nick McIntyre 2-for-3 along with a two-run home run and Isaiah Whetstone was 2-for-3 with a double and a home run. The Expos also won in 2016.
The Expos also had Veenhoff named the most outstanding pitcher and Lyons was the tournament’s most valuable player.
The annual tourney sees the winner get a paid berth to the 2018 ISC World Tournament in Kitchener. The tournament will take place August 2018 and will be in Kitchener for the fifth time in the past 16 years.
“Kitchener always puts on a first-class presentation. They are head and shoulders above most everyone else,” ISC executive director Larry Fisher told The Waterloo Record in an August 2016 article.
