With the countdown on to what is expected to be one of the largest sporting events ever held in Prince Albert, community organizations are lining up behind the 2018 Junior Men’s World Softball Championships.
In the Johnny Bower Lobby Friday, the host committee announced the Northern Lights Community Development Corporation (NLCDC) will act as the presenting sponsor for the WBSC event.
Blake Charles is the general manager of the NLCDC and said the organization was drawn to support the event in part due to the youth involvement.
“Whenever we see an event that comprises of youth, be it sports, arts, music, whatever it is, we try to contribute in terms of funding a portion of the project,” Charles said.
The NLCDC encompasses a wide swath of the North — from Meadow Lake to the eastern sector — and Charles hopes the event has a positive influence on youth development all across the North.
“There are so many opportunities and that leads to other positives within the youth’s development,” he said. ”Anytime we can partner and assist, we see that the youth have an opportunity to live to their potential whatever that is, be it sport to other things in life. That is one of the key reasons why we try to support these types of events.”
