Scott Conroy and Joran Graham Lead the Way
From Jamie Bramburger – Special to the Pembroke Observer and News
The Micksburg Twins are again the champions of the Greater Ottawa Men’s Fastball League. First baseman Scott Conroy walloped a three-run homer in the fifth inning and Joran Graham allowed only two hits and struck out 11 batters as the Twins blanked the Orleans Rebels 7-0 in a winner take all championship game in Micksburg.
In front of a large crowd at the Micksburg ball diamond, the Twins jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a victory behind the pitching of Graham who went the distance, again showing why he is the best pitcher in the league.
Graham was at his best. He dominated the strike zone, throwing hard and rarely walking a batter, keeping the Orleans batters off balance with a good mix of pitches. It wasn’t a surprise. Graham just missed out on being named to Canada’s national fastball team roster after a summer of playing against some of the best players in the world.
He competed at the International Softball Congress World Championships in the United States, the Rawlings Canadian Championships in Saskatchewan and helped a Denmark team win a gold medal at the European Championships in the Czeck Republic. Back home in the tiny hamlet of Micksburg where he learned to play the game, Graham was in cruise control.
