Chinese Taipei, USA still on top after Day 3 of WBSC U-18 Softball World Cup

Day 3 was an interesting one at Villa Maria del Triunfo sport complex in Lima, Perú. Chinese Taipei and USA won their games on Wednesday and sit on top of the standings, while Czech Republic defeated the Netherlands to put themselves in position to fight for a medal on Sunday. Colombia defeated Peru, 2-0, and claimed their first victory in the history of this event.
Peru vs Colombia – Photos and stats
Sophia Bertorelli pitched a gem this Wednesday to give Colombia a historic win over Peru, 2-0, in the last game of day 3 at the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup. Colombia’s two runs were scored in the first inning.
Bertorelli was brilliant. The 14-year-old right hander used 95 pitches to complete the shutout, with six strikeouts, while allowing four hits.
Puerto Rico vs Peru – Photos and stats
Aminah Vega and Janelle Martinez produced Puerto Rico’s five runs in the game, leading the way in their team’s 5-2 win over Peru on Wednesday afternoon. The victory keeps Puerto Rico in the fight for a medal spot.
Chinese Tapei vs México – Stats and photos
Chinese Taipei defeated Mexico, 5-1, and remains unbeaten, with a 4-0 record.
Kuei-Ping Yeh put Chinese Taipei in front with an RBI single in the top of the sixth, and one inning later her team added four more runs to the scoreboard, with RBI singles by Yung-Chi Chang and Chiao-Chi Lai, and a pair of fielder’s choices.
Hsia-Ai Ke was the winner of the game, pitching 3.1 frames in relief. She struck out four, and gave up three hits and a run.
