8 Walks by AWP Key Victory for New York
The New York Gremlins extended their win streak to six games with a 6 to 3 win over the AWP Lumberjacks Friday night in the Peligro Cup tournament in New York City. Their young Australian pitching star, Jack Besgrove was stellar, striking out 16 in the winning effort, surrendering only 3 hits and 0 earned runs, and walking only 2.
The Gremlins mustered only four hits in the winning effort. Eight walks by Lumberjack pitchers played a big role in the win for the New York squad, the Gremlins scoring five runs in the second inning on only one it and five walks. The big blow in the second inning was a two RBI single by first baseman Erick Ochoa, which followed four consecutive walks by Lumberjack starter Mark Diaz who gave way to reliever Kuba Osicka. Osika pitched well and limited further damage to a lone run, a solo home run by Gremlins shortstop Cole Evans.
Pool play games continue throughout the day on Saturday, July 1, 2023 with the playoff round scheduled on Sunday. The New York Gremlins play two games on Saturday, the first at 12:15 p.m. EDT, against Fisher Fastball of Lancaster Pennsylvania and the second at 7:00 PM PDT against Team Kennedy.
