July 22, 2025 – Shortstop Cam Schiller announced his retirement from the USA Softball Men’s National Team following an exceptional showing at the 2025 World Cup.
Schiller, widely regarded as one of the finest defensive shortstops in the game today, capped off his international career with a spectacular tournament performance. His 2025 World Cup statistics tell the story of a player at the peak of his powers: a blistering .450 batting average, an impressive .700 slugging percentage, and a phenomenal 1.200 OPS across six games. With 9 hits in 20 at-bats, including 2 doubles and a home run while driving in 3 runs, Schiller proved he could impact games both offensively and defensively.
But it was his glove work that truly set Schiller apart throughout his career. Known for his lightning-quick reflexes, exceptional range, and an arm that could make throws from the deepest parts of the shortstop hole look routine, Schiller redefined what it meant to play the position at the international level. His defensive prowess became the cornerstone of Team USA’s infield, turning potential rallies into double plays and robbing opposing hitters of what seemed like certain hits.
The softball community will undoubtedly feel the absence of Schiller’s steady presence up the middle. His combination of defensive excellence and clutch hitting made him a player opposing teams had to game-plan around, and his retirement marks the end of an era for USA Softball.
As Schiller transitions away from international competition, fans and teammates alike will remember not just the spectacular defensive plays, but the professionalism and dedication he brought to every game in a USA uniform. He will be missed.
