After seeing their first game postponed due to unforeseen circumstances followed by a lengthy rain delay before the beginning of the second day of competition, the Canadian Men’s National Team hit the field with a doubleheader, defeating Australia 11-2 on the run rule before dropping a 6-3 decision to the United States after five innings later in the day in a game that was stopped due to darkness and deemed a completed regulation game.
Key Moments – Game 1 vs. Australia:
Team Canada took control of the game with a six-run second inning, loading the bases with one out before a string of six consecutive hits by Nick White (RBI single), Bradley Ezekiel (two-run single), Ty Sebastian (RBI double), Blake Hunter (RBI single) and Jordan Pomeroy (RBI single). After Canada added a run in the top of the fourth, Bradley Ezekiel put the game away with a grand slam in the fifth to seal the 11-2 win.
The Americans jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before Canada came back to tie the game in the bottom of the second. Jordan Pomeroy had a lengthy at bat before reaching on a throwing error, followed by a single by Justin Laskowski before Derek Hyde hit an RBI single and Mitch McKay followed with a two-run single to make it 3-3. USA regained the lead with a solo homerun in the top of the fourth, then added a two-run shot in the fifth. The game was suspended due to darkness after Canada’s at-bat in the bottom of the fifth and later deemed a completed regulation game by tournament officials.
Canada (1-1) returns to action against Singapore (1-1) at 10:00am China Standard time on Friday (10:00pm EDT Thursday) with the winner earning a spot in the semi-finals.
