The playoff brackets (Championship and Consolation) will be drawn at about 1:30 PM, or as soon as the final pool play games are completed. The playoffs were originally slated to begin Saturday morning at 9am, but were pushed back, due to Friday’s rainouts.
The Friday afternoon/evening games that were rained out are being played Saturday morning, with a one hour and 15 minute time limit imposed, to permit all games to be played. Kudos to the ESPN grounds crew for their work in getting the soggy fields ready for play Saturday.
As you can imagine, with forty teams, it takes a good bit of work to put the playoff schedule together. Co-tournament director Ken Hackmeister usually has Friday evening to assemble it, and prepare a press release announcing it. Due to the rainouts, and rescheduled games, that process will take place at the fields, following the conclusion of the last pool play games. Thereafter, he’ll prepare and release the schedule, so it may be mid-afternoon before it is posted here.
Ballparkradio broadcaster Kyle Smith mentioned during this morning’s broadcast that he might come on the air before his 4 PM EST broadcast to do a “playoff preview” show, so keep an eye out here, and/or at Ballparkradio.com for further news on that. If he does the playoff preview, it will be immediately archived, so you can still listen to it before the 4PM EST broadcast of Softball Canada’s first playoff game, via the archive.
In the meantime, catch up on the games played so far on our 2011 AAU Scoreboard.
(This complete scoreboard is a permanent page at Fastpitchwest, and can also be accessed via our new “drop down menu” buttons the top of the page.
In case you hadn’t noticed, the newly designed Fastpitchwest website has two types of pages. First, there are “Posts“, i.e. blog posts, like this one. These “posts” are shown in chronological order, with the newest items on top, pushing the older ones down below. Second, there are “Pages“, which are organized under the “drop down” menu buttons at the top of the page. When you “mouse over” the menu buttons, you’ll see sub-pages “drop down”.
We use “Posts” for the daily news, so you’ll find AAU blog posts for “Pool Previews” that we did before the tournament, the schedule of games, announcements about broadcasts, and the daily scoreboards. The “posts” are not organized under the menu buttons, but can be found via “Search” box, or using the “Categories” and/or “Archives” boxes over on the right side of the page.
We use “Pages” for the permanent sections of Fastpitchwest, so in the case of the AAU tournament, you’ll find one page that includes the scoreboard for the entire tournament all on one page, as well as others for “Schedule of Games”, “Rosters” and so forth.
The AAU “pages” include a history of the tournament, starting with 2004, each with its own set of (sub) pages. Each page at the newly designed Fastpitchwest shows you exactly where you are in the site. So, when you are looking at the 2011 AAU scoreboard, it will show you this at the top of the page:
YOU ARE HERE: HOME / TOURNAMENTS / AAU INTERNATIONAL / 2011 AAU INTERNATIONAL / SCOREBOARD 2011
Our new software calls that “Breadcrumbs“, because it marks the trail, so you can find your way home. You will also note that you can click the links in “Breadcrumbs”, to go back up one or more levels. Think of it like the folders on your Computer, starting with the main folder (“Home”), and the sub-folders below it.
Breadcrumbs for (blog) posts are slightly different, showing you the catetgory that are marked for each blog post. (So you can see at the top of this blog post that we marked this one “International”.
The “Search” box in the upper right hand side of every page is a great way to quickly find what you’re looking for. Like a Google search, the more details you type in, the better the result you’ll get.
