SONORA, CA–Santa Rosa Fastpitch had high hopes of bringing home its third tournament title of the season, but it was Da Bruddhas and Fat City who dominated play here Saturday and Sunday in the Class C Division of the Sonora Gold Rush Tournament. Both teams went 3-0 on Saturday and then won their first game on Sunday to advance into the championship game (results were not available).
Fat City defeated Santa Rosa twice, 11-7 on Saturday and 9-3 in
Sunday’s elimination game, while Da Bruddahs beat the Stockton Warriors 5-2, Elk Grove 16-8, and Wally’s Bail Bonds of Santa Rosa 6-3 on Saturday, and then eliminated Elk Grove 16-1 on Sunday. Fat City also defeated the Warriors 4-2 and Wally’s 6-5 on Saturday. anta Rosa, which went into the tournament without the services of its No. 1 pitcher, Jeff Want, got 11 hits in its 11-7 loss to Fat City on Saturday, pounded out 14 hits in its 11-7 loss to the Warriors, when it left 13 runners on base, and then got 18 hits in a 13-2 win over Elk Grove, with Gary Dower scattering eight hits to get the pitching win. Santa Rosa got 14 hits but left 11 more runners on base in its 10-5 win over the Warriors on Sunday, with Alvaro Valladares getting the in, and then got 14 hits and three walks in its 9-3 loss to Fat City, leaving 13 runners on base (9 in scoring position). Santa Rosa center fielder Mike Mathewson hit .722 (13×16), Gary
Dower .636 (7×11). Valladares .625 (10×16) and newcomer Alan Sarpy . 462 (8×13) to lead the Santa Rosa attack.
