Teams Bumped up for 2009 ASA Nationals

Article 507 of the ASA Code provides:

F. Mandatory Classification.

01. Mandatory Reclassification. An adult team that has four or more players on a roster, including pick-up players, from a team or teams that finished in the following divisions and classifications in the same National Championship Final must participate in the next higher classification in championship play for their next ASA playing season unless they played
in the Major classification:

a. Men’s Class B Fast Pitch Top Six (6) Positions
b. Men’s Class C Fast Pitch Top Six (6) Positions
f. All Other Divisions and Classifications Top Four (4) Positions

EXCEPTION: For National Championships with 48 or less teams, the mandatory reclassification to play in the next higher classification will only affect the top five percent (5%) of the teams. Fractions will be rounded up to the nearest whole number.

Following that formula, (and un-officially), the following teams appear to be subject to ASA’s Mandatory bump up rule:

Class C:
1. Landis Supermarkets, PA
2. Santa Rosa, CA
3. Katman Sports, MA
4. Manor Dirt Dogs, TX
5. Piper Lake KS
5. G2, AZ

Class B:
CFD Kokomo, IND
* The “fewer than 48 team exception/5% rule” applies here, as there were only 6 teams at the tournament;

Class A:
Italian Athletic Club, CA
* The “fewer than 48 team exception/5% rule” applies here, as there were only 10 teams at the tournament

Ironically, next year’s ASA “B” Nationals will be in Prescott, Arizona (scene of this year’s ASA “C” National), so the six “C” teams listed above will be in familiar surroundings.
