Portland All-Star Correction (Scott Newitt) & More!

Scott Newitt (OF) from the Rose Cup Champion Vancouver BC Grey Sox was an All-Star Selection this past weekend in Portland. His name was inadvertently left off the list for publication. Scott & his Vancouver team had an awesome tournament. The Vancouver Grey Sox put on a tremendous show for the fans in Portland. Conrad Margolis & Larry Kancs were all smiles and with good reason.

We would like to give a special thanks to Doc Simmons, Steve Kooser & the Broken Bow Spirit team who traveled a great distance to attend this years event. The 2004 ISC Champions were runnaway winners of the 2004 Rose Cup. Bow may not have been at full strength over the weekend, but made no excuses. They are a class act on and off the field and such a pleasure to watch play. I’d pay to watch their rematch at the Vancouver Challenge next month. That should be a dandy!

Jimmy Williamson and his JRW & Associates team lost a couple of pitchers the day before the tournament and a third two weeks prior. So, they show up with one horse by the name of Dave Drotzman in the circle and play some very respectable ball. A lot of teams would have bailed, but not these guys – they came to battle. Jim Williamson also assisted on other tournament projects. The guy is a computer wizard. Good luck at ISC II’s guys.

Joe Bodle with Bodle Chiropractic came down from Des Moines, Washington with only one regular pitcher on his roster. Thanks Joe – there is something special about these iron man teams that are short handed and show up and battle. BTW, we spelled their name wrong for the second time on the t-shirts.. collectors items, Joe?

We appreciate the many thanks we have received, but, frankly this tournament is successful because of the teams that come to Portland and put on such a tremendous show. On behalf of PMSA, Tournament Director Roger Jones, Assistant Director John Fitzgerald, ASA Commissioner Ron Boley & myself, we thank each of the teams that came to the tournament.

In addition, we would like to tip our hats to Jim & Maddy Flanagan from www.fastpitchwest.com who flew up from the L.A. area to cover the event and also broadcast some of the games on www.ballparkradio.com. Your unselfish & generous contributions to the tournament and the game are truly amazing.

The Rose Cup Committee had several new faces this year and a lot was learned on what needs to be done to make future events even better. While we have several ideas of our own, we welcome any comments or recommendations for next years Rose Cup. We hope to see many, if not all, of you back next year!

Thank-you all,

Thomas Ree
Rose Cup Advisor (former TD)
