We are pleased to share a special edition of “Diamond Dirt” with you, published by our good friend, editor John Thompson. As most readers know, John published the daily editions of Diamond Dirt for fans in Kitchener at the 2002, 2006 and 2007 ISC World Tournament and ISC II Tournament of Champions, providing timely information and interesting stories and notes on the players, complete with photos.

This issue features the visiting ISF World Champions, the New Zealand Black Sox, who will be playing exhibition games against the South Perth All Stars of Ontario, and the Bridgeport Braves and K-W Cubs on July 1 and July 7, respectively, bookending the Monkton tournament to be played July 2-5, 2009.

From John:

For you and your fans on FastpitchWest, please note the attached edition of Diamond Dirt for the Wednesday July 1 (Drayton) and Tuesday July 7 (Kitchener) games between the New Zealand Black Sox National Team and representative teams from the South Perth Fastball League (All Stars, Bridgeport Braves and K- Cubs).

DRAYTON is a small community of about 1,000 people) that is celebrating its 10th anniversary as an amalgamated community – part of “Mapleton”. Not coincidentally, (ISC Hall of Famer) Larry Lynch is a an part of that community and a major factor in bringing the Black Sox to Drayton. Drayton is about 20 miles (35 km) north of Kitchener-Waterloo, and also home base for Drayton Entertainment, a not-for-profit theatre group that provides live performances of musicals, broadway hits etc. to more than 100,000 patrons each year in six theatres throughout Ontario.
