Rose Cup Scoreboard

Team Rainey scored their biggest win of their season Saturday, a 4-1 win over the defending Rose Cup champion, the Vancouver Grey Sox, behind their newest addition, young Sebastian Gerutti from Argentina. Sebastian notched two wins Saturday, with mainstay ace Bricklen Anderson picking up one in his start, for a perfect 3-0 Saturday for Team Rainey.

The ISC World Rankings just released this week pegged Vancouver as #6 in the world, while Team Rainey is # 24. Vancouver entered the tournament as the highest ranked team, with the So Cal Bombers right behind, at #8. Like Rainey, the Bombers were a perfect 3-0 Saturday, with each of their three pitchers picking up a win, Travis Price, Tony Peeples and Ryan Brand.

Sean Whitten, who shone brightly at Red Rock while pitching on loan to the Bombers, notched two wins Saturday for the Prince George Black Bears of British Columbia.

So Cal’s Mark Bennett picked up two wins for the host team, CR/Portland, with teammate (and Team USA star) Terry Luster picking up one in the nightcap, giving Portland a 3-0 Saturday. Portland was the runner-up in last year’s tournament, making it to the championship game against the Vancouver Grey Sox.

The ISC II’s #16 ranked team, the Colorado Rage had a big day, knocking off the ISC World #23 ranked Houston Aces. Houston has been one of the hottest teams in the country over the past 4 weeks, upsetting #5 ranked Patsy’s at Red Rock and finishing second, followed by a title at the ISC Qualifier for the Texas region. They struggled to score runs in Portland, scoring only 1 run in three games. They beat A-1 Tank 1-0, after getting shutout 1-0 in a pitching duel between the Colorado Rage’s Kurt Tabashnuik and Houston’s Wayne Wells, before falling to host Portland, 6-0 in the nightcap.

ISC II Teams:

ISC II #16 Colorado Rage finished with the best record among the ISC II teams, with a 2-1 record, with their second win coming over a former ISC II team, A-1 Tank.

ISC II #14 ranked Lumberkings finished 1-2, notching a win over ISC II #22 JRW Associates, falling to two ISC World Tournament teams, the So Cal Bombers and the Prince George Black Bears, of British Columbia.

ISC II #22 JRW Associates also faced stiff competition, going 0-3 while playing up in classification. Like the Lumberkings, JRW had to face two of the ISC World’s best, the So Cal Bombers and Prince George Black Bears.

Play continues Sunday, in single elimination bracket play.
