The bracket is up to date as of this posting at 1pm PST. Only three
teams remain. Just three teams left. Host Portland is back in the
finals for the second year in a row, with two So Cal giants, Team
Rainey and the So Cal Bombers squaring off in a semi-final matchup
that will determine Portland’s opponent. In the most dramatic game
of the day, Portland and Vancouver squared off in a quarterfinal game,
a rematch of last year’s championship game, which Vancouver won. This
year, it was Portland’s turn, with Mike Piechnik picking up a 5-4 win
in 8 innings over hard throwing Nick Underhill. Portland led 4-1
before Vancouver tied it and sent it into extra innings.

The Larry Miller Hogs of Salt Lake City, Utah gave the So Cal Bombers
a run for their money, before falling 5-2. The Bombers led midway,
2-1, but the Hogs tied the game at 2 in the 4th. Ryan Brand came on
in relief to pick up the win for the Bombers.

The Bombers will face local So Cal rival Team Rainey, who always seems to play their best at Portland. Rainey was in the finals in 2003 and 2004. Young Argentine Sebastian Gervasutti has three wins while Bricklen Anderson has two, for their 5-0 record thus far. Team Rainey is ranked # 24 in the current ISC rankings, while the Bombers are #8. Rainey opened the Rose Cup tournament yesterday morning with a 4-1 win over #6 ranked the Vancouver Grey Sox.

Prince George Black Bears, BC won their morning game, but departed
early, forfeiting their semi-final with Portland.
