The # 3 ranked team in the world, Chicago/NY kept up the momentum from last week’s Erie Tournament championship with two opening night wins in South Bend, Indiana, beating # 16 ranked Ashland Stockpack of Ohio, 4-0 and the # 7 ranked Bar of Appleton of Wisconsin to advance to the winner’s bracket semi-final. For their efforts, Chicago/NY will get Friday off, returning to action Saturday morning, when they will face the winner of # 9 Minnesota Angels/unranked Duncan Outlaws game.
Meanwhile, at the other end of the bracket, the # 1 ranked team in the world, the Broken Bow/Jarvis Travelers showed why, pummeling # 20 ranked Dolan & Murphy, 16-0.
The unranked Duncan Outlaws delivered the first big upset of the tournament, routing #14 ranked Quad City Sox, of Iowa, 9-1. The Sox are one of the host teams in next week’s ISC World Tournament.
In other first round games, # 4 Albaugh IA defeated the # 5 Midland Explorers, 13-6, while the #12 ranked Kegal Black Knights defeated local unranked Anderson Lawmen, 6-0.
