TEAM CANADA
Team Canada announced this past Friday, (see Al’s Fastball for the complete story) that 3 great ball players from our area have been named to Team Canada and will be heading to Hermosillo Mexico this November 18th to 26th for the VIII Pan American Softball Championship….
A pair of Breslau Badgers of the South Perth Fastball League made the team….Brandon Horn and Ben Wideman were included on the Team Canada roster. Andy Skelton of NewMarket was named as well
Brandon and Ben faced each other in the Canadian Fastpitch championships in Owen Sound this past summer. Ben was lead off hitter and centre fielder for the host and Ontario Senior Champs, the Owen Sound Selects. Ben showed the fans at the Canadians that he is one great centre fielder, and can hit singles, home runs and even can bounce one off the top of the outfield fence.
Brandon batting at or near the top of the order for the KW Hallman Twins; the Canadian Fastpitch Champions… is an outstanding second baseman with two other championships this year at the ASAs in South Bend and the ISCs in Quad Cities… He showed he could make the transition quite nicely to short stop with the KW Twins making two outstanding defensive plays against St John’s in the Championship game in Owen Sound…
Andy Skelton, another outstanding young player was on the Owen Sound Selects roster with Ben Wideman. He pitched, played second base and of course was one of the leading batters at the Canadians..
All 3 played outstanding fastball at the Canadian Championships. Ryan Wolfe will be missed in Mexico but these three are great leaders, and a great addition to Team Canada.
Team Canada heads to Mexico in November for the Pan Am tournament…a qualifier for the ISFs in New Zealand in 2013
