Fast-pitch softball might not be as popular as it once was. But the players today are every bit as good as those who played in the game’s heyday.
When the 12th annual Joe Santos Memorial tournament begins today on the field that bears the name of the late aficionado in Bessemer Park, players who love and excel in the sport will again showcase their talents.
“This will be one of the most competitive tournaments we’ve ever hosted,” said tournament director Chris Santos, son of the late Joe Santos said. “Both Salt Lake City and Topeka (Kan.) are ISC world tournament-caliber teams.”

Editor’s note: Their Facebook page is a must visit, if only to see the video posted of Pueblo Bandit Shawn Vanduvall as a Little Leaguer, posted by his friend Ivan Rodriguez Rodriguez, who sums it up best:
“He can’t tie his shoes but he knows how to pimp a homer!”
It’s a classic !

Editor’s note: The joke is on me too — Shawn says it’s not him ! 😉
Well the Memorial weekend has arrived again and I cannot say enough about my friend Joey Cervi with the Pueblo Chieftain! This weekend in Bessemer Park my family will celebrate the life of my Father Joe Santos on the field that now carries his name. My Dad loved Fastpitch Softball, he loved Bessemer and he loved Pueblo, but most of all he loved his FAMILY…Please come out to Bessemer Park this weekend and help us celebrate his life and enjoy some exciting Mens Fastpitch Softball! God Bless…
