ALLIANCE TOURNAMENT SERIES – WEEK 5

SAVALA ROUNDERS AND SO CAL HUSTLERS TAKE THE CHAMPIONSHIP’5

The Alliance Tournament Series played the weekend of July 8 – 9 in Santa Fe Springs with the Savala Rounders winning the Championship in the A/B classification and the So Cal Hustlers Winning in the C classification.

“B” CLASSIFICATION

The Savala Rounders were the top seed going into the single elimination posting a 3 – 1 record in the round robin. Their first game in the late morning was against the Grillos and won 5 – 3 to enter the Championship game and face the Panteras.

The Rounders had Russ Snow in the circle against the Panteras Bobby Lara. Erik Geierman opened the game with a triple and later scored the games first one on Spanky’s base hit. The Panteras came back with two of their own in the bottom of the inning with Eli Salazar and Jimmy Buentello stealing their way around the bases to take the lead.

In the third Erik had his second triple in as many at bats and scored on a base hit by Carlos Gonzales. The scored remained tied through the seventh and the teams went into the International Tie Breaker. Ron Rupp entered the game in the fourth inning and was on the mound entering the eighth. The Rounders moved the runner Leckers to third on a sacrifice and he scored on Lou Enriquez’s double down the right field line. A couple of hits later Lou scored what would become the go ahead run and the Rounders added two more in the inning as insurance. The Panteras came back with one run of their own in the bottom of the inning and had a runner on third, but Russ was able to strike out the final two batters for the win and the Rounders first Championship of the season.

The Panteras once again proved that they are a solid team as they entered their fourth Championship game this year. Also posting a 3 – 0 record in the round robin, they were the second seed as a result of the runs allowed difference between the them and the Rounders. The Panteras faced San Diego Primetime in their first game and won 4 – 0 to face the Amigos in the semi’s. In the Amigos game the Panteras were down to their last out in the bottom of the seventh when Eli and Jimmy singled and Tony Beason doubled to score Eli to tie the game. The Panteras won the game in the bottom of the tenth once again with Eli, Jimmy and Tony providing the hits and run.

“C” CLASSIFICATION

The So Cal Hustlers came out of the round robin as the number one seed with a 3 – 0 record, with two of the wins being stopped by the run rule. In the single elimination the Hustlers did not let up and scored 21 runs while only allowing 4 to take the Championship. In their first game the Hustlers faced Palm Springs Express and won 10 – 2 to set up the Championship game with RAS Contractors. The Hustlers made short work in this game going only five innings as well and scoring in each of their at-bats. Bobby Cole earned both wins for the Hustlers.

RAS Contractors came into the single elimination as the number four seed and faced the host of the tournament Latin Heat in their first game and won 7 – 3 to enter the Championship game.
