It never rains in Southern California…well, hardly.
This past weekend I was in the beautiful (albeit wet) city of Santa Barbara, California, photographing the 21st annual Best of the West tournament. Although some rain was expected, I was hoping to have complete coverage of the tournament. Alas, it was not to be so, and early on the 2nd day of the tournament the weather gods turned against us and the skies broke open; leaving us all (players, directors, fans, photographers) wanting more and wishing for a better ending. Nevertheless, Saturday’s games provided some great action that I now share with you. Editor’s note: In the team profile we did on Liberty Fastpitch for the tournament, I mentioned that Liberty pitchers love the way the way David Carrillo can run down balls in the outfield. This one looks like Clark Kent just before the cape appears. I don’t know what impresses me more about this pic – the sheer athleticism, or the fact that Maddy caught the peak moment of action from such a great distance. Either way, I thought you would appreciate it as well.
