NIAGARA FALLS — Ryan Thompson was a single away from hitting for the cycle as the Owen Sound Verge Selects blanked the Ashland (Ohio) Stockpack 9- 0 in five innings on Sunday to win the 2011 Niagara Snappers Shootout Men’s fastball tournament.
Frank Lang and Adam Dearborn also homered while Andrew Scott had two singles and a double.
Matt Leahy earned the win, allowing four hits while striking out five.
Owen Sound edged the Elmira Expos 3-1 in the semifinals.
