The New Zealand Black Sox men’s fastpitch team, ranked No. 2 in the world, will play the Northend Softball League all-stars Tuesday at Stevens at 7 p.m.
The Black Sox are on a three-week tour of North America as part of their preparation for hosting the International Softball Federation tournament in 2013.
The Sox lost the 2009 ISF final to the Australian Steelers after winning the previous three titles.
New Zealand and the Reading area, of course, have a history in men’s fastpitch softball. The Reading Sunners, New Zealand and Canada shared the 1976 ISF title when rain cut short the tournament that was played in New Zealand.
