
Ace pItcher Bryan Newton tops the list of five Fredericton Maritime Poker Twins imports being taken to the 2011 Senior men’s Canadian Fastpitch Championships in Owen Sound beginning this weekend.

The Twins are bringing along two non-Atlantic Canadian imports – Newton, from Alberta, and catcher Pat Humphries of Ontario – in addition to three imports from Atlantic Canada.They include pitcher Donnelly Archibald of Antigonish, center fielder Joel Isenor from Lance, and hurler Justin Schofield out of Wolfville, NS., who recently won a national championship with the Nova Scotia junior fast pitch squad.
“Newton is an absolute horse,” said Twins player/coach Bobby Despres of his team’s top pickup. “He’s born with a rubber arm I believe. He doesn’t get tired.”
Newton, who was recently a part of the New York/Chicago team that finished runners up at the International Softball Congress World Tournament, joined the Twins for their nationals appearance last year, and pitched more than 40 innings.
Humphries is hailed for his bat, having gone 10-for-22 for a .455 batting average at last year’s nationals. To continue reading, click here.
