PETALING JAYA: Veteran pitcher Liong Lii Shin is out to make amends in the Indonesia SEA Games which starts this week.
The 32-year-old men’s softball team captain was in the squad for the 2007 Korat Games but they returned home empty handed.
Malaysia won a bronze in Manila back in 2005 but Lii Shin was not part of the team then.
This time, Lii Shin, who is a software engineer by trade, is hoping for better fortunes and bring home at least a bronze from Palembang.
“It was disappointing not getting anything the last time out but this time we are all fired up to get a bronze,” said Lii Shin who has been playing softball for the past 15 years.
“The team are in good spirits and training hard and we believe that we’ll be able to spring a surprise.”
Softball was not included in the 2009 Laos Games and Malaysia will be sending a relatively young squad this time.
Most of the players are aged between 20-22 and it will be a first exposure for them against the traditional powerhouses such as Philippines, Thailand and hosts Indonesia.
While the men are out to set things straight, their female counterparts will be competing in the SEA Games for the first time since 1997. Click here to continue reading.
