Many soccer fans are glued to their television screens, enraptured by the global extravaganza that is the World Cup.
But if you want to witness an intense international competition first-hand, circle Tuesday on your calendar. That’s the day Argentina’s senior men’s fastball team will be in our region to clash with the Vasey Selects in a dynamic doubleheader featuring some of the globe’s top fastball players.
“It will be a great event. I hope lots of kids make it out to the park to enjoy it (because it) will be very entertaining action for those who are familiar (with) fastball and those who are not,” said Vasey pitching ace Grant Patterson.
The former Team Canada star said his Vasey Selects — a team of local fastball stalwarts, many of whom have competed at International Softball Congress competitions — will have their hands full.
“The Argentina lineup has a ton of speed and power and will be exciting to play against and watch,” said Patterson.
Last year, at the 2013 International Softball Federation world championship, the Argentinian national team finished fourth — one spot ahead of Canada. The visiting squad features two of the world’s top-10 fast-pitch hurlers in Lucas Mata and Juan Potolicchio. Click here to continue reading at the Orillia Packet
