Oxford County has long been a destination of choice for fastball.
People will make it out to the ballpark rain or shine, but now they’ll have more motivation to head out to the diamond.
The Argentinean men’s national fastball team will take on the Tri-County Men’s Fastball League’s All-Star team June 23 in a doubleheader at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. at Innerkip Park.
The opportunity arose with Argentina playing a series of exhibition games and tournaments in the region in anticipation of the 2015 Pan-Am Games, as well as having several players part of teams that will play in the 2014 ISC World Tournament in August in Kitchener.
“We used to have an All-Star game, so I presented it to the league about bringing the Argentinean team when they’re touring,” event co-ordinator Darryl Wharram said. “(The County’s) a good hotbed for fastball.”
The Tri-County team will be represented by players from all 12 of their league teams. It allows area fans to watch some familiar faces, while also showing the depth of top international talent. Click here to continue reading at the Tillisonburg News
