OHSWEKEN – It’s not every day you get the opportunity to face some international competition.
Especially from the land down under.
The Six Nations Hill United Chiefs mens softball team will have that chance next weekend when they will host a double-header with the Australia men’s national team in Ohsweken. The Australian team is currently embarking on an international tour to prep themselves for the upcoming International Softball Federation (ISF) World Championship, which will take place June 26 to July 5 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
The Aussies will be up against a strong team in the Chiefs, who are two time defending International Softball Congress (ISC) champions. Chiefs spokesperson Bryan Porter said it’s a great way to start the softball season for both teams.
“We’ve had a great tradition of playing an international team each year to start off our season,” Porter said. “We’ve had a great relationship with the Australia team. It will be the first time we will be playing against them.”
Both teams do have something in common as they share the same pitcher in Adam Folkard, Porter said.
“He’s a big part of it,” he said. “Our starting line up has played for various international teams so there’s a good mix of experience there.”
