Bolstered by their star-studded international lineup, the Kitchener Hallman Twins hit the basepaths running this weekend for the first time this season.
The 2014 men’s fastball world club team silver medalists, along with four of the world’s top-ranked squads and the touring Australian national team, will compete at the Cephas Roth Memorial, opening Thursday in Tavistock.
The Twins, ranked No. 3 in the world, will compete in a field that includes the defending International Softball Congress world champion and current No. 1-ranked Hill United Chiefs from Six Nations, the Scarborough Force and the Toronto Gators, ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.
Kitchener’s roster, which features players from Denmark (brothers Freddie and Valde Terkelsen), New Zealand (pitcher Jeremy Manley) and 11 Canadians including Waterloo infielder Brandon Horn and pitcher Ryan French, of Kitchener, will be short a couple of players in Tavistock.

Team Australia, which finished third at the last ISF worlds in 2013, open in Tavistock on Thursday at 9 p.m. against the Kitchener Cubs of the South Perth Fastball League at Queen’s Park in Tavistock.
Hill United — shored up by Kitchener men, utility player Craig Crawford and first base coach Larry Lynch — sees its first action on Friday at 5 p.m. against the Elmira Expos at Queen’s Park.
The championship final goes Sunday at 2 p.m.
