Despite a big day at the dish from Derek Martin, who finished 2-3, USA Junior Men’s National Team lost 11-5 to DeKalb Hustle Hogs on Wednesday.
DeKalb Hustle Hogs’ lineup had no answer for Taylor Weldin. DeKalb Hustle Hogs managed just two hits off of the USA Junior Men’s National Team’s pitcher, who allowed one earned run, walked two and struck out four during his 3 1/3 innings of work.
Even though Silverste allowed five runs over seven innings he still recorded the victory. He struck out eight, walked one and surrendered seven hits.
Jeff Lewis couldn’t get it done on the rubber for USA Junior Men’s National Team, taking a loss. He allowed nine runs in 1 2/3 innings, walked four and struck out one.
In the bottom of the first, USA Junior Men’s National Team grabbed the early lead, 3-0. Lewis singled to ignite USA Junior Men’s National Team’s offense. A double by Isaac Hormann then moved Lewis from first to third. USA Junior Men’s National Team then tacked on more runs when Hormann scored on an RBI double by Martin and Martin scored on an RBI double by Michael Douds.
DeKalb Hustle Hogs stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the second, scoring nine runs on a fielder’s choice and two singles.
One run in the bottom of the third helped USA Junior Men’s National Team close its deficit to 9-4. fueled USA Junior Men’s National Team’s comeback. The USA Junior Men’s National Team threat came to an end when Silverste finally got Justin PEREZ to strike out.
After pushing across one run in the bottom of the fifth, USA Junior Men’s National Team faced just a 10-5 deficit. A groundout by Lewis set off USA Junior Men’s National Team rally. But, Silverste got Hormann to fly out to end the inning.
