In the first of two marquee match-ups of unbeaten teams Thursday evening at the ISC World Tournament at Moline IL, the New York Gremlins will take on the Toronto Gators in a Winner’s Bracket Semi-Final. Both teams enter the contest with perfect 3-0 records. Toronto is the runner-up from 2015, and ranked # 2 in the final ISC rankings, while the New York Gremlins hold the #3 ISC ranking and fresh off the ASA Men’s Major Championship in Ashland Ohio just a few weeks ago.
In their quarterfinal game that preceded tonight’s contest, the NY Gremlins defeated the # 6 ranked Vancouver BC A’s (formerly California A’s) by a 3-0 score, with the Gremlin’s Argentine pitcher Roman Godoy besting the A’s Venezuelan, Ramon Jones, and outhitting the A’s 9-1. The A’s did not have a hit until Kevin Castillo led off the 7th with a single. The A’s set the table with the tying runs aboard, but Andrew Kirkpatrick came on in relief to seal the win. The Toronto Gators won their quarterfinal game, against the #7 ranked J&B Painting. Wayne Lalu struck the big blow in a hard fought battle, with a towering home run to centerfield that provided the margin of victory. The Gator’s Ben Enoka tripled in the 6th and came home to score, but Toronto ace Sean Cleary pitched like he needed no insurance, surrendering but one hit while striking out 14. For more details on the game, see our earlier post here.
The winner of tonight’s contest will face the winner of the other Winner’s Bracket semi-final slated for 8PM CDT, the defending (3-in-a-row) champions, Hill United vs. the Scarborough Force.
