Two Pitchers Team Up As USA Men’s National Team Shuts Out Puerto Rico
USA Men’s National Team defeated Puerto Rico 9-0 on Thursday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Duane Weiler induced a fly out from Emanuel Colon to finish off the game.
USA Men’s National Team secured the victory thanks to eight runs in the third inning. USA Men’s National Team‘s big inning was driven by a double by Cameron Schiller, a double by Erick Ochoa, a groundout by Tyler Dudley, a triple by Jonathan Lynch, and a single by Yusef Davis.
A single by Fernando Garcia in the fifth inning was a positive for Puerto Rico.
Tony Mancha earned the win for USA Men’s National Team. He tossed four innings, surrendering zero runs, zero hits, striking out five, and walking zero. Christian Orellano Sancheztook the loss for Puerto Rico. He went two and a third innings, allowing five runs, and five hits.
USA Men’s National Team collected seven hits. Lynch and Davis each collected multiple hits for USA Men’s National Team. Davis and Lynch each collected two hits to lead USA Men’s National Team. USA Men’s National Team didn’t commit a single error in the field. Nick Mullins had five chances in the field, the most on the team.

Editor’s note: Four no-hit, no run innings for Mancha to pick up his second win of the day, following the earlier 5-1 win over Cuba. Jonathan Lynch was the offensive standout with a double and triple, driving in two. Erick Ochoa also drove in two. That puts the USA squad at 5-2 in pool play and headed to the playoff round. The two losses were to Venezuela, (8-4 in extra innings) and Columbia (3-2). The two biggest wins were over host Dominican Republic and today, over Cuba.
