Day 2 “Marathon” at WBSC U-19 Women’s Softball World Cup

In the history of the U-19 Women’s Softball World Cup, the day that will be remembered as August 11 Marathon .

We get started with group D games.

Canada beat the Netherlands, 2-0, playing perfect defence behind some brilliant pitching by Samantha Ryan, who went the distance allowing only two hits and three walks. Canada outhit, 6-2, the Dutch and also prevailed in the running game.

Canada went on to defeat later in the day Chinese Taipei, 7-0.

Chinese Taipei had begun the tournament with a late-inning come from behind win over New Zealand, 7-6. The team from Oceania took the lead three times in the game, and was only one out away from victory, but couldn’t hold the lead.

New Zealand remained in the race for a spot in the super round with a 7-0 win against the Netherlands.
Brooke Glassie went the distance, allowing ony two hits and three walks. New Zealand had nine hits against four Dutch pitchers, including a home run by first baseman Pallas Potter.

These are group B games.

Japan scored in each of their four offensive innings to take an 8-1 win over South Africa.
Shuri Kasahara produced 3 runs on 2 hits, while Mio Sakamoto, Chise Yamashita and Remi Shingu combined to pitch a 1-hit game. Yamashita took the win in 3 innings of work, with 1 hit, 1 run and 2 strikeouts.
