Upset of the Day – #27 ranked RM Kurtz 3, # 6 ranked JB 1
#27 ranked RM Kurtz Enterprises of Ephreta, PA earned honors for the biggest upset on Day 2, a 3-1 win over JB of Agoura, California. The teams battled through 6 innings, with the score tied 1-1. Kurtz notched two runs in the top of the 7th to take the lead and held on for the big win. JB struggled offensively, mustering only three hits. RM Kurtz made the most of their 4 hits in the pitcher’s duel.
Kurtz’s Erik Chapparo went the distance to pick up the win, tossing a complete game 3 hitter, striking out 8 while walking 4. The only run surrendered by Chapparo was a sixth inning solo home run to Federico Eder. Erik Chapparo helped his own cause with a home run of his own, a solo shot in the 3rd inning.
Lane Kurtz of RM Kurtz had the game winning hit, a 2 run single in the 7th. Kurtz had four runners reach base in the 7th, two on walks and two singles. Roman Godoy was the tough luck loser, striking out 13 while walking 3.

The #1 ranked New York Gremlins struck early, scoring 8 runs in their first round contest against the NW Braves. Four Gremlin home runs powered the outburst by Jerome Raemaki, Mathieu Roy, Bryan Abrey, and Ladislao Malarczuk. Mathieu Roy, Cole Evans, and Ben Enoka added doubles to the offense
HR: Jerome Raemaki, Mathieu Roy, Ladislao Malarczuk, Bryan Abrey. Veteran ace Andrew Kirkpatrick tossed 5 no-hit innings, striking out 7 while walking none to pick up the victory.
The Gremlins will return to play at 12noon local time (CDT) Monday against the #16 ranked Oshweken Redmen. The Gremlins defeated the Redmen in their first tournament of the season, the Chiefs Challenge in Simcoe Ontario in June, 6-3.

The #2 ranked Niagara Stompers scored 6 runs in their first inning and added 6 more over the next three innings for a 12-0 four inning win. Teo Migliavacca, Pita Rona, and Juan Cruz Zara each homered in the contest, Zara’s a Grand slam. Pitchers Hueml Mata and Martin Gonzalez each tossed two shut-out innings, combining for 10 strikeouts in the win.

#3 Hill United Chiefs won a pair of games on Sunday, a 13-0 win over #31 ranked Grand Valley and a * win over the #14 ranked Wander Spring Chippers of Greenleaf Wisconsin.
In the first game, Hill United scored 4 in the 2nd and 7 in the 3rd, cruising to an easy 11-0 four inning run-rule contest. The Chiefs pounded out 9 hits in the win. Scott Patterson’s grand slam home run was the big blow. Jonathan Lynch and Shane Boland each doubled, driving in 3 runs each in the win. Hill United pitcher Michal Holobradek tossed three no-hit innings, striking out 8, while reliever Joran Graham tossed two innings to close out the win.

In the nightcap, the Chiefs led 2-0 through 4 innings before putting the game away with a 9 run 5th, notching an 11-0 run-rule victory over the Chippers.
The Chief’s Jonathan Lynch had a pair of doubles, driving in 4 of the 11 runs, while Bradley Ezekiel and Scott Patterson each homered. For Patterson, it was his second homer of the day, following a grand-slam in the earlier game on Sunday. Michael Holobradek, of the Czech Republic picked up his second win of the day, a 5 inning 2 hit shutout, striking out 9 while walking 1.

#4 ranked Bear Creek Express pounded out a dozen hits in a 6-0 win over #30 ranked Lacey A’s from Washington State. Express ace Sean Cleary tossed 4 shutout innings, striking out 7 while walking 1 while relievers Riley Mannion and Justin Schofield got in an inning of work in the run-rule shortened game.
Tyler Pauli of the Express homered and tripled, while Quinten Bruce had a pair of doubles for the Bear Creek offense. Bruce and teammate Ryan Boland drove in 2 runs each.
The #5 ranked Circle Tap Dukes, the host of this year’s ISC World Tournament did not play on Sunday, having opened the tournament with an 11-3 win over the #28 ranked Alvinston Aces. The Dukes will return to play Monday night against #21 ranked Waterdown Hammer, who was the Day 1 upset winner, with a 6-3 win over #12 ranked Ostrander Norsemen,
