Bear Creek Express, Niagara Stompers Win, Advance to Winner’s Bracket Finale Friday night
NY Gremlins, Hill United Fall to Loser’s Bracket
#4 ranked Bear Creek Express knocked off the #1 New York Gremlins, 5-3, ending the Gremlins season long 32 game win streak. It marked only the second loss of the season for the New York squad, the others, an opening game loss to… Bear Creek.
The #2 ranked Niagara Stompers walloped #3 ranked Hill United, 14-1 in the other Winner’s Bracket Semi-final to earn the other spot in Friday night’s Winner’s Bracket finale.
It was a tough day on Thursday for Hill United Chiefs, who lost 14-1 to Niagra Stompers
Niagra Stompers scored five runs in the fourth inning. The offensive firepower by Niagra Stompers was led by Cam Schiller, Dylan Cunningham, and Juan Cruz Zara, all driving in runs in the inning.
Huemul Mata took the win for Niagra Stompers. The hurler allowed two hits and one run over three and a third innings, striking out six. Martin Gonazalez threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Michal Holobradek took the loss for Hill United Chiefs. The bulldog surrendered six runs on six hits over two innings, striking out two.
Hill United Chiefs socked one home run on the day. Scott Patterson put one out in the third inning.
Patterson and Shane Boland each collected one hit to lead Hill United Chiefs. Hill United Chiefs didn’t commit a single error in the field. Josh McGovern had the most chances in the field with nine.
Niagra Stompers totaled 13 hits in the game. Schiller, Cunningham, Blaine Milheim, and Blake Underwood each racked up multiple hits for Niagra Stompers. Schiller went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Niagra Stompers in hits. Niagra Stompers was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Cruz Zara had the most chances in the field with nine.
