Thursday June 13, 2024 – 8pm – Venezuela vs. Mexico
The Editor’s pick for the Game of the Day at the WBSC Men’s World Cup Qualifier is the 8pm game between Mexico and Venezuela. Venezuela started the tournament yesterday in impressive fashion, shutting out the defending World Champion Australia team 7-0, behind the 3 hit, 12 strikeout shutouf performance of Day 1 Player of the Day, Maiker Pimentel, while host Mexico upset Czechia, also by a 7-0 score. With the host team involved, should be a good crowd on hand, turning up the excitement level to 10.
Two teams enter, one will leave (with an unbeaten record).
The Official WBSC Live Blog describes the game as follows:
Mexico and Venezuela will collide in the second game at Fernando Ortiz Stadium. After their 7-0 wins yesterday, only one of them will remain undefeated tonight. For the World Cup, their last game was in 2015 in Saskatoon, Canada, when Venezuela beat the Mexicans, 6-1. However, their last official matchup was last year, in the Central American and Caribbean Games, when Mexico prevailed in an eight-inning, 12-11 slugfest. First pitch is scheduled at 20:00.
