All Australian softball coach Bob Harrow wants for Christmas is a green and gold final in the Test series against New Zealand and Argentina.
The Aussies have fielded two teams in the fastpitch series which begins at Hawker International Softball Complex today. They will be known as the Green team and the Gold team.
”I’d love nothing better than to see green and gold in the finals,” Harrow said.
”I don’t know whether it will happen or not but we’re quite excited about the youngsters that have come into the camp, and with the veterans and the way we’re working I’m very happy to see the progress we’re making.”
It will be no easy feat, with the Kiwis a formidable enough opponent for a full-strength Aussie side claiming three consecutive world championships.
That was until Australia knocked them off their perch at the last world championships in 2009.
Adam Humble, the 2010 Australian male player of the year, was part of that triumph and sees his role not only on the field but also to help mentor the young guys coming through the ranks.
Today’s games:
Australia Gold v Australia Green at 1pm.
Argentina v New Zealand at 3pm.
Australia Green v Argentina at 5.30pm.
New Zealand v Australia Gold at 7.30pm.
