The New Zealand men’s softball team made a winning start to a quadrangular international softball tournament in Canberra today after beating Argentina 3-1.
Jerome Heretuku, who was making his debut for the national team, and captain Rhys Casley opened the Black Sox’ account in the third inning with Brad Rona adding another in the fifth.
Argentina’s sole run came in the fifth inning when Black Sox pitcher Heinie Shannon gave up a home run.
Shannon, who pitched the seven innings, gave up just three hits in the game.
The tournament involves Australia, who have entered two teams, Argentina and the Black Sox.
