
The Aussie Spirit inflicted a clean sweep over the New Zealand White Sox in the 3 game International Test Series at Mirrabooka State Softball Centre in Perth.
Following the final of the Edebone-Weber Shield, 17 of Australia’s best female Softballers led by Head Coach Fabian Barlow entertained the Perth community, comfortably accounting for the White Sox in all 3 games.
In preparation for the 2012 ISF XIII Women’s World Championships, catchers Carmelle Sorensen and Monique Miller made their debut in the national team.
Commencing on Saturday night the Aussie Spirit defeated the White Sox 7-1 following 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd and a further 4 runs in the 4th innings. The White Sox sole run came when Charlotte Pointon batted in Sina Hunkin, a replacement runner for Hope Weber.
Game 2 saw the Aussie Spirit win by the run ahead rule 7-0 after just 5 innings. The Australians jumped to an early 2-0 lead after their first bat. The Aussie Spirit wrapped the game up after piling on 5 runs in the 5th which included a homerun to the Edebone-Weber MVP Stacey Porter.
The final game of the International Test Series was much like the previous 2 games with a score line of 6-0 in the home teams favour. The White Sox were on the back foot early after the Aussie Spirit clocked up 4 runs in the 2nd. Leadoff Batter Leigh Godfrey batted in Monique Miller, then Melinda Weaver scored off a sacrifice fly to Leah Parry. Queenslander Jodie Bowering kept the momentum going scoring Leigh Godfrey and Brenda De Blaes following a dropped fly at right field. Runs in the 3rd and 5th finished the series off in a 3-0 whitewash.
