Only one result will be considered acceptable by Giants in their Inter City series men’s softball match with Cardinals at Fraser Park tomorrow.
A win is vital if Giants are to stay in contention for the semi-finals of a competition involving the best club sides in Hutt Valley and Wellington and, while first string pitcher Ritchie Clarke won’t be on the diamond, he says no excuses will be offered for defeat.
“We should win, that’s all there is to it,” Clarke said. “No other result will be good enough.”
With Clarke heading to Auckland to play as a guest pitcher for Eden Roskill in the Vic Guth tournament this weekend, the versatile Justin Karaitiana will step into the pitching role for Giants and Clarke is confident he will do the job. “He’s been there, done that and the pressure won’t worry him at all,” Clarke said of Karaitiana. “He’ll be looking forward to the challenge.”
Clarke has no worries either about Giants being able to score heavily against the inexperienced Cardinals pitching staff. “We have enough depth in our batting to put them away.”
