The Canterbury men’s softball team are one game away from winning their first national fastpitch title since the tournament’s inception in 2002.
Canterbury came from behind to beat Wellington 9-5 today to qualify top for tomorrow’s final at North Shore’s Rosedale Park.
Canterbury scored seven unanswered runs, five of which were in the final innings, in the last three innings.
Defending champions Wellington will need to beat Auckland in tomorrow’s playoff if they are to have a chance of making it back-to-back titles.
Meanwhile, winners of the last four women’s fastpitch titles Hutt Valley failed to qualify for the final. Instead, the title will be contested between Auckland, last year’s beaten finalists, and Wellington, who have been a surprise package at the tournament.
