In 2012, the Argentine men’s softball will be a witness and participant in a historic moment in the development starts in November when the World Youth Championship to be played in Paraná, Entre Rios, the first appointed by the International Federation in South America.

For this reason, the national team led by the coach and the coach Mariano Spotorno Gamarci wastes no time in July and has already completed its first stage of preparation in the CENARD, with support from the Ministry of Sport Ministry’s Office of Social Development of Enard, also accompany the tour of the U.S. team in July.

“The comprehensive support of the Ministry of Sports of the nation thanks to the permanent approach Enard Secretary Morresi and reflects the state’s commitment to a pluralistic sports policy that integrates all disciplines. This enlarges our hopes for a great tournament and improve the fourth in Canada 1997 “, noted for www.deportes.gov.ar Gamarci. On Monday CENARD facilities completed the first phase of work for ten days with 18 players in the center and south of the country for the World Cup that WILL take place from 1 to 10 November 2012.

Gamarci, who endorses a Spotorno since both took office in February 2010, noted:

“We will always thank the Secretariat of Sports of the Republic and the Enard for the support it gives us the air tickets to play every tournament or every tour that we plan. As we expected in July by the United States in which we will focus, playing a series of friendlies pointing to the growth of this group. “

For its part, Federated National Sports Director, Marcelo Giraudo remarked that “softball Argentina is experiencing a special development which is marked from the youth who from 2010 have the presence of a coach, defining a clear policy support from the Secretariat to the national expansion of the sport. In turn, that is enhanced by the planned U.S. tour to give international exposure to our youth. ”
After the rally in Buenos Aires, another group of 32 players from the north of the country and Paraná began in the second stage of preparation, completing the roster of 50 players that will work for the World Cup.

On the realization of World Entre Rios, Gramaci coach said:

“That is organized and carried out first World Cup in South America is completely brilliant, an honor for us, because last year’s Women’s World Cup was held in Venezuela but the U.S. organization, which for a timing problem could not do it at home. It is gratifying that the International Confederation of Paraná has chosen because it marks the excellent work being done dirigencial. “

– What work did the Argentine group at this early stage?
– Made a plan to divide it into two groups. And in this first concentration with 18 players could make the most of the comforts of CENARD and in turn challenge the older Open Tournament at the Sports Gorkigrana Moron. A major national tournament that allows players to earn our pace and experience.
– What goal are plated for the World Cup to be local?
– Aim is to improve the best historical performance was the fourth in the World 1997 in Canada. In Paraná our main rivals will be Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Canada. We have great opportunities, especially for the potential of Argentine boys give us much room to operate in these two years remaining.

Editor’s note: Argentina notched a historic win at the last ISF Jr. Worlds, held in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada in 2008, a first-ever win over New Zealand, which came in dramatic fashion, with an extra-inning-game-ending triple play. That team was coached by Eduardo Sabate, who has since moved on to coach the Sr. Men’s team for Argentina. He and his coach (and son) Sisko Sabate helped the program develop and leave Whitehorse with a winning record.

In 2008, Argentina finished with a 6-5 record in the eight day round robin competition, tied for fifth place overall, with Mexico and Venezuela, and ahead of the USA, which finished 5-6. Among the pitchers on that squad, was Guido Silbert, who spent the summer pitching in Southern California for Clyde Bennett’s 23-and-under team, the Young Bucks. The Latin American teams, including Argentina have their sights set in 2012 on breaking into the medal round, occupied last time out by medal round qualifiers Australia (gold) Canada (silver), Japan (bronze) and New Zealand. Australia has won gold for the past four competitions, over a 16 year period. Canada came within an out/hit from winning gold on their home turf, and Argentina will see hosting the games in 2012 in Parana, Argentina can bring some more magic to their game.

Argentina is certainly showing its commitment to building and improving their ISF programs. Late last year, their senior men’s team traveled to Australia to compete against Australia and New Zealand. Now, this summer, their Jr. Men will be traveling to the US, to train and compete in preparation for 2012.

The round-robin results from the 2008 ISF Jr. World competition:

Per the ISF rule, four teams advanced to the medal round. Canada eliminated New Zealand, while Australia beat Japan in the battle of the “double life” teams. Canada beat Japan in the bronze medal game, and then Australia topped Canada in the gold medal game, with Drew Faulkner of Australia driving in the game-winning-run in the final inning.

Ballparkradio’s Kyle Smith and Jim Flanagan broadcast the final three days of the 2008 ISF Jr. Worlds in Whitehorse, with Canada’s walk-off win over New Zealand one of the more dramatic clips in the Ballparkradio library: Kyle Smith on the call.
