ACT takes national softball crown
ACT reclaimed the John Reid Shield after beating the Queensland Patriots 3-0 in the grand final of the 2011 Australian Men’s Softball Championship held at the Redland Softball Association grounds at Ormiston last weekend.
In what was a trying week for teams, officials, and ground crew due to the inclement weather on the first three days, the championship came down to two hours of play for the crown of Open Men’s Champions.
Led by Softball Australia legend and world champion Aussie Steelers head coach Bob Harrow, ACT were the standouts of the 2011 competition, only dropping a single game for the week.
The grand final was no exception with the ACT men taking it up to Queensland who could not manage to score off the solid pitching of Andrew Kirkpatrick.
The Queensland Heat open women’s softball team finished third in the Australian Women’s Softball Championship, for the Gilley’s Shield.
WA won after defeating NSW 1-0 at the Redlands grounds.
