Disappointing, but perhaps expected. That best sums up Porirua City United coach Les Bishop’s description of his side’s performance yesterday in the national men’s open softball tournament at Fraser Park. Porirua beat Fastpitch (Hawke’s Bay) 7-2, but then lost to Mt Albert Ramblers 11-1. “It was disappointing,” Bishop said. “We really needed two wins.” However, it was always going to be a tough ask for Porirua to beat Ramblers, whose lineup includes Australian pitcher Andrew Kirkpatrick, and were ahead 3-0 after the first inning.
Editor’s note: The favorites in this tournament are Kirkpatrick’s Ramblers, Miramar, the Hutt Valley Dodgers and Auckland Marist.
