The BSF have announced that Mark Berman has retired as the Manager of the Great Britain Men’s Fastpitch Team. In recognition of his services to the Team and to British and international softball, he has been awarded the title “Manager Emeritus”.
Mark managed and played for British National Teams, including the GB Men’s Team, for 10 years. He founded the GB Men’s National Fastpitch Team which, in 152 games, finished with a 97-55-2 record (.638). The Team’s best season was 2003 when it went 19-4-1 and outscored its opponents by 191 to 45 runs. LA Fitness, the Team’s fitness sponsor for the Worlds, called the GB Team “one of the country’s leading international sporting sides” and, on the back of its accomplishments, “one of the great success stories of the sporting world”.
The GB Men garnered two top three finishes in European Championship play, qualified for the 2004 ISF World Championships in Christchurch, NZ (the only British softball or baseball team ever to qualify as of right for a world championship) and, in the Worlds, earned their World ranking of 9th place.
