Sebewaing celebrating 1960 state championship team at Michigan Sugar Festival June 18

SEBEWAING — In 1960, the Gettel’s softball team of Sebewaing won the Class C fastpitch state tournament in Petoskey.

Since then, some of the players moved away, some never played another game of softball and some have died. But when the remaining teammates get together in the same room, the years wash away and the stories start flooding back as if a day hasn’t passed.

They swap stories of their experiences in the service, tell tales about other softball adventures and update each other on the whereabouts of former teammates — all while making sure plenty of good-natured ribbing is dished out.

So those Gettel’s players will have plenty to talk about when they reunite June 18 to be honored at the Michigan Sugar Festival and serve as grand marshals of the festival parade. Click here to read the complete story and photos at MLive.com
