First of all…..I sent a note out last week to many of you about our good pal, former TienHoa and Waterloo Twin coach Doug Davies saying that he was in London’s University hospital for surgery. Doug’s daughter Jen has been keeping some of us informed…and the latest I have is that he is still in ICU with hope that he will soon be released to a floor…prayers and well wishes to one of fastball’s finest….

More details on Al’s Fastball

The Weekend before ……

It was hot and sunny all weekend long in St Clements, the beer tent was busy and shade was hard to find.

The local recreation committee spent a ton of cash on the three diamonds as they all had new fences and backstops for the 20th Annual St Clements tounament hosted by the Kitchener Outlaws. That was quick work, in April I was in St Clements and the old fences looked broken down and the infields were overgrown with weeds…nice work on the improvements. Great site for a ball tounament.

Bob Hall sent me the following report on the games…the local KW area teams did well….Hallman Twins won “C” beating Morpeth, Erb Electric Expos won B, over Wellington.

In the A flight the two top teams, The Port Elgin Blue Devils had beaten the KW Cubs in preliminary round play, and the Cubs returned the favour in the playoff round on the hot Sunday afternoon…Both teams had used up their supply of pitchers, the players were knocking the ball all over the ball yard and it was late Sunday afternoon, when Blue Devil manager McKinnon approached Cubs manager Thomson with a proposal that they forgo the final game, and share the top spot in the tournament. Gladly accepted, hand shakes all around, the Cubs headed home and the Blue Devils headed north to perhaps catch a famous Port Elgin sunset

It won’t be the last time these two great teams meet this summer.

Here are the results from coach Bob Hall….

HELP>>>>

The Legends of Fastball Classic committee needs to borrow a trailer for their weekend….anyone out there have a lockable trailer that they can park at Peter Hallman for the June 25th to 27th weekend…

It doesn’t have to be big, it doesn’t have to be new, it is just needed as a HQ for the committee…

I can promise we can put it to good use in the name of softball and the Children’s Wish Foundation…please contact me.

And a BIG THANKS to UIC Bruce Bierman for finding and arranging for some great stools for the upstairs room at Peter Hallman and the scorebooths as well. The Brantford Casino was undergoing renovations and Bruce was able to put aside some chairs for us. And thanks to fastball fan and senior scorekeeper, Don Barr for helping to bring them to KW from Bruce and Cheryl’s home in Ayr…

Living in style in the scorebooth.
