PJ spoke of the Clearwater Bombers as being the Yankees of fastpitch. That reference was mostly to the bombers of the ’50s who were ten time World Champions (Back then the ASA World tournament included Canada and Mexico). I cut my teeth batting against Hall of Fame Pitchers Herb Dudley and John Hunter and I have been hooked on fastpitch ever since.

Jim-I think the Bombers of the 60s with Weldon Haney & Eddie King won a few championships too.

      Eric, right you are.

The Clearwater Bombers were the ASA National champions 10 times, with 5 of those coming in the 1960’s. Haney was the MVP in three of those. (The Bombers were runner-ups in a number of the “off” years)

      1950 Clearwater Bombers, Clearwater, FL
      1954 Clearwater Bombers, Clearwater, FL
      1956 Clearwater Bombers, Clearwater, FL
1957 Clearwater Bombers, Clearwater, FL MVP – Herb Dudley, Clearwater Bombers

      1960 Clearwater Bombers, Clearwater, FL
1962 Clearwater Bombers, Clearwater, FL MVP – Weldon Haney, Clearwater Bombers
1963 Clearwater Bombers, Clearwater, FL MVP – Weldon Haney, Clearwater Bombers
      1966 Clearwater Bombers, Clearwater, FL
1968 Clearwater Bombers, Clearwater, FL MVP – Weldon Haney, Clearwater Bombers

      1973 Clearwater Bombers, Clearwater, FL

Too bad fans didn’t get to see them play the 10 time ISC World Champion Long Beach Nitehawks.

Parallel path of the 10 time ISC World Champion Long Beach Nitehawks:

        World Champions:

        1953 Nitehawks, Long Beach, CA
        1955 Nitehawks, Long Beach, CA
        1956 Nitehawks, Long Beach, CA
        1957 Nitehawks, Long Beach, CA
        1958 Nitehawks, Long Beach, CA
        1959 Nitehawks, Long Beach, CA

        1960 Nitehawks, Long Beach, CA
        1968 Nitehawks, Long Beach, CA

        1971 Nitehawks, Long Beach, CA
        1975 Nitehawks, Long Beach, CA

And like the Clearwater Bombers, the Long Beach Nitehawks were also the runner-up team in a number of the “off” years.
