Venezuela is sending 16 teams to the AAU, yet, not one team attends an ISC and never has.
In fact Did even one player from that country play with a team in Moline?
Venezuela is the 5th best team in the world, Pan American and Central American champions and cup play sports in new york danger we have come 3rd. Orlando fl, my team has had the Southern Pichert ranking number 1 Adam Folkard.
Not sure if any of them played in ISC or not. Some of them have before.
Orlando is a lot more desirable for the Miami and Venezuelan teams.
More nightlife, shopping, Disney attractions, and cheaper flights and housing than the ISC events.
Hey, the Venezuelans are playing in the U.S. (Florida), spending probably oodles of money and helping Florida’s economy. And that’s a great thing for Floridian businesses. Especially after the holiday spending season has passed.
Also, I would imagine that playing in Canada and northern U.S. states in the ISC World Tournament would be more costly for the Venezuelans, and perhaps occurs during their off season (I’m not sure about that).
And maybe, just maybe the ISC and NAFA, for that matter, haven’t done the marketing job they should have to entice them (along with Mexican teams) to play in their ISC and NAFA national tournaments.
If NAFA can convince Japan to participate (2010 World Series), why not Venezuela, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand…as well? Now wouldn’t that be a true ISC World Tournament or NAFA World Series!
Think Mr. Hillhouse was in charge of that task ( getting foreign teams to come to the ISC). Obviously he was
not successful.
Money is probably the determining factor.
Venezuela has some economic and political involvement in their lives/money that does not lend itself to travelling with a lot of money and the value of their money vs. the dollar is horrible.
Like I said, Orlando is way more appealling to them than Eau Claire, Fargo, Decatur, Quad Cities, etc.
Lots of Spanish speaking people in Orlando and Orlando is pretty cheap when you consider it is such a destination. Vacation packages ( flight/car/hotel) are very reasonable.
The teams are not afraid of playing against ISC teams.
But, they choose to spend their money on the AAU—-paying a pitcher’s way, renting a house, hotels, cars/vans, and flights can eat up your budget very quickly.

We have struggled to get 48 US/Canadian teams to come to the ISC due to the economy… foreign teams have it even worse!! I would be more than happy to detail the challenges facing the INT teams and getting them to the ISC but Matt is right, money is the primary. Send me an email and i’ll fill you in.

no Chi/NY no rumored NZ Black Sox over 50% of teams that don’t go to ISC. This is a non-competitive tournament. How many of the Folkards, Matas,Cheeses, Manleys, Blackshaws, Clearys, Juans will even be there??
